Recycling Rooted in Nature: Science & Sustainability

Conventional plant extraction utilizes brute force to blend organic matter into pulp, resulting in an indiscriminate mixture of flesh, fiber, bioactive compounds, and potential impurities (e.g. natural pollutants, harmful chemicals, and toxins). Additionally, preservatives become necessary to prevent spoilage. This method wastes approximately 90% of plants’ precious and original biomass, adding to our beloved Earth’s ecological burden.

In contrast, MELJEN’s proprietary exosomal-extraction technology honors, maintains, and respects Mother Nature’s bountiful gifts with advanced precision and care.

Our proprietary “Gentle Collection System” (Patent No. CN202410629128.8) is a biotechnological process conducted by our dedicated R&D team of scientists, developed to collect PDENs (Plant-Derived Exosome-like Nanovesicles), or nanoscale botanical messengers, from curated plants— such as goji berries— via physical separation instead of chemical solvents.

The former:

  • prevents soil and water contamination by avoiding the usage of chemical solvents, such as alcohol and chemical reagents— which may also potentially irritate sensitive skin.
  • enables raw materials (i.e. non-PDENs, non-active plant fibers) to be completely and safely recycled, rather than disposed of as mere waste; residual plant matters function as regenerative nutrients for seasonal crops.
  • keep “Our relationship with Mother Nature is not strictly transactional; it is intentionally cooperative. We strive to offer state-of-the-art biotechnologically-developed skincare whilst minimizing our ecological footprint,” stated MELJEN’s R&D Director. “We are Nature, we depend on Nature’s bountiful gifts, and we respect the laws of Nature— in this light, technology is not only also a byproduct of Nature, but a tool to maintain itself, ourselves, and pay homage back to Nature as one whole!”

Due to our “Gentle Collection System”, all plants processed as PDENs for MELJEN’s scientifically-formulated skincare have a zero-waste life cycle and dual-regenerative function: PDENs enrich human epidermal cell turnover and vitality; non-PDENs matter enriches natural turnover of new botanical growth.
